The gas diaphragm had a large hole in the middle on one occasion, and large crack across it on another. Can you please advise as to whether you think wet air will cause this problem. (Compressor Type D080LC1.6, Serial No. BCI 13229C02) Two weeks ago the compressor quit "compressing". Everything was running, but there was no increase in discharge pressure. We removed the internal check valves, cleaned them, and also replaced the springs. In addition to cleaning the check valves, the "witch's hat" strainer on the suction piping was removed and cleaned. Two weeks later, we are experiencing the same problems. There are no signs of a diaphragm failure. The head integrity pressure guage shows no signs of pressure. This is the first problem we have had with this machine. It has been running great for a year. (according to the manual) We started compressor on 31th July. 1st stage HIDS was active(alarmed) On 3th August. We opened the vent valve and then we find leaking of oil. What do you think major causes of this trip? After we had vented the oil from HIDS system, we restarted the compressor. When we replaced diaphragms, we find permanent deformation (plastic zone) of gas side diaphragm on second stage. Is permanent deformation caused by HIDS being active? I find that we don't have all drawing and arrangement part list of manual. We originally didn't receive all. So we ask Hun Ki HONG (in a branch office of korea) for sending all drawing and arrangement part list. We received no answer by now. The model number for the compressor is P166HGG480/360/200 CSH and serial number is HCL6298A, BCSA27560. In the past few years we started having problems on interstage buffer tanks, that pipes connecting the tanks and compressor which also designed functioned as tanks' support, started generating excessive stress to the interconnections to the tank, resulting tank cracks around inlet and outlet connections (welded) area. These have caused several compressor shutdowns. Also from the year of 2001 on, we also started having tank support anchor bolts breakdwon, happening every year. The cracks were on the: 1st stage inlet and outlet; 2nd stage inlet; 3rd stage inlet and outlet. All anchor bolts on the interstage buffer tanks' supports broken down at least once. The root cause for these, as what we understood, is that the strenghth of support and interconnection is not strong enough to withstand oscillating stress generated by pulsation force generated from piston stroke. Every time when we had a crack we have to shut down the compressor, which is supposed to be running 24/7. The treatment and repair was for temperary as it is time limited and nobody knows when this will happen again. The compressor installation was done by your sevice personnel, as what I was told. What we need for you to do is to identify and verify the root cause and also tell us the practical remedy. The new helium compressor has to be designed on the base of a centrifugal or, in alternative, regenerative impellers. The electrical motor should be completely immersed in the helium flow. We have three recycle compressors supplied by yourselves back in 1987. I am basing my project on the recycle system which incorporates your compressors. Periodically the compressors are becoming waterlogged, either breaking the diaphragm and tripping, or losing the flow. When this happens the compressor head is found full of water. I have been looking into why we are getting so much water in the machines. The gas is saturated, maybe even supersaturated, and the water cooling to the machine is colder than the gas inlet. I believe the problem may lie with the knock out pots we employ prior to the compressors, and possible having water carryover ?. However, we seem to be knocking water out also in the discharge which may run back ? Not too sure if the velocity of the gas at 200 psi and flow of 35 nM3/h is enough to push it to the downstream separation pot. The compressor is:- Type - A2 Seriel No - 20076 Year - 1987 What is the permissible amount of saturation / moisture that your machine above can handle ?
